Norfolk, Virginia. “Just as the car replaced the horse and the buggy, and the iPhone replaced the pigeon, mushroom skin replaces the skin of cows, and interaction with virtual reality leaves roadside zoos in the dust – so PETA is looking for the next great animal-friendly innovation. New Future Without Speciesism Award has just opened to all graduate and undergraduate students and winning applications can receive up to $ 10,000.

Applicants must identify how animals are still being exploited and propose a non-animal commercial substitute. PETA previously rewarded students for creating state-of-the-art organ-on-a-chip technology that could prevent countless animals from being used in painful experiments and then killed.

“If you’re in school and have an idea to revolutionize the practice or industry of animal cruelty, we’d love to hear from you,” says Martha Holmberg, Senior Director of PETA Youth Programs. “PETA is betting – and will help fund – the way gifted young people can prevent animals from turning into pizzas, parkas, pack mules, or anything else that denies them the right to be who they are.”

This award does not transfer ownership of PETA or prevent applicants from patenting their inventions. Students can work as a team or individually. Prize amounts vary between 1000 USD as well as USD 10,000 and will be determined by PETA based on the performance, usability and viability of the submissions. PETA’s motto, in particular, is that “animals are not ours to abuse them in any way.” For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
