Deshka Landing, Alaska – Below is a statement from PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien in response to Dallas Seavey’s victory at Iditarod 2021 this morning:

Seavey’s record for cruelty to animals is as long as Iditarod’s trail: he left behind four dogs that he pushed over the limit during the race, the dogs he competed on tested positive for opioids, his kennel was accused of killing dogs that did not make an assessment, and the whistleblower said he found dying puppies on his property. Considering that, so far, at least 150 allegedly exhausted, injured or sick dogs have been pulled out of the Iditarod; the lame dog was apparently forced to continue the race; and PETA’s COVID-19 warning has come true, any rider who crosses the finish line of this reckless spectacle deserves ostracism, not praise.

ExxonMobil, a major sponsor of Iditarod that provides $ 250,000 a year, recently confirmed that 2021 will be the last year that the company will support the race. He joins Jack Daniel’s, Coca-Cola, Chrysler, Wells Fargo, Alaska Airlines, State Farm and many other companies that have ended their support for Iditarod after hearing from PETA calling on Millennium Hotels and Resorts to follow suit.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours to be used for entertainment” – opposes arrogance, which is a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
