Washington – PETA ran ads on bus stops and bike routes in DC, denouncing the National Park Service (NPS) for promoting a controversial livestock development plan on California’s Point Reyes National Coast that would also kill thule. Elk the world’s rarest subspecies of elk.
Today, most of the remaining Thule moose are trapped on a small peninsula on the national coast behind a high fence that protects feed resources for cattle. Hundreds of moose reportedly died in 2020 because a fence prevented them from looking for food and water elsewhere. However, the plan will allow the NPS to slaughter local moose as they see fit and allow ranchers to keep more than 5,500 cows on some 26,000 fenced-off acres of coastline for another 20 years.
“Through this reckless plan, the NPS panders to pastoralists and literally push moose to the edge of the national coastline, ”says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “It will take more than just PETA to protect the dwindling populations of these beloved elk — we also need government support.”
PETA notes that raising cattle also uses water and contributes to climate change; contaminates existing Point Reyes water systems with manure, hormones and antibiotics; and makes gentle cows endure gruesome deaths in blood-drenched slaughterhouses, even if they feel pain and care for their families like a moose.
PETA advertisements are posted at bus stops in the following locations:

- E. Street Expressway at Virginia Avenue, northwest
- 599 23rd Street NW
Advertisements are also placed on bike rentals in the following locations:
- 20th Street NW and E. Street
- 19th Street in the northwest and Pennsylvania Avenue in the northwest
- Farragut Square at 17th Street NW and K Street
- 18th Street in C Street NW
- 21st Street in G Street NW
On Wednesday, May 19, PETA advertises in Washington Post it will be written: “NPS, secretary Haaland: do not kill Thule moose. Say no to the breeders! “
