PETA calls on Millennium Hotels and Resorts check about Iditarod’s cruelty to dogs, says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman. “Guests at M Social Hotel should be disgusted at the thought of supporting a race that killed 150 dogs and countless others on the brink of collapse.”
About half of the dogs that started on the Iditarod do not finish, and during this year’s race nearly 200 dogs went off the track due to exhaustion, illness, injury or other reasons. Many others died in the off-season, being chained in the open air in freezing temperatures, or were killed because they were not considered fast enough.
ExxonMobil, which gave the race $ 250,000 a year for decades, is the last major Iditarod sponsor to end support, and Chrysler, Jack daniels, Coke, Wells Fargo, as well as Alaska Airlines everyone stopped sponsoring Iditarod.
