Washington – Tomorrow PETA supporters will unfold a poster that reads “Save the California Moose Thule! Buck stops here! »Demand the Home Office to suspend the National Park Service (NPS) plan that would promote livestock production on the Point Reyes National Coast – even if it depleted water resources and sentenced the beloved Thule elk herd to death.

    When: Thursday, May 6, 7:45 am – 9:15 am

Where: Around the corner, 1849 C St. NW, at intersection 19th and C Street NW, Washington DC

The NPS plan will allow livestock breeders to keep more than 5,500 cows on 26,000 fenced coastal acres for another 20 years, but livestock is a major contributor to the climate crisis and results in inefficient water use. Hundreds of moose at Point Reyes died in 2020 because ranchers’ fences restrained herd on the peninsula, preventing them from reaching water elsewhere. Only two other herds of Thule moose remain at Point Reyes, and the NPS plan will allow some of them to be killed if the ranchers see fit…

“The Home Office has a commitment to the American people and the wildlife that call this country home –not livestock interests, ”says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA is urging the agency to take its responsibilities seriously and stop capitulating to the demands of the meat industry.”

PETA – whose motto is in part that “the animals are not ours” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…
