Rochester, Minnesota. – Oscar winner Angelica Houston intervenes in the protection of chinchillas afflicted at the Moulton Chinchilla Ranch (MCR) near Chatfield, where a recent PETA exposure has identified animals with open wounds, exposed bones and other painful injuries.

In a letter sent this morning on behalf of PETA to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Houston points to the MCR’s nine-year report on dozens of animal welfare violations and writes: “Please end this merciless suffering by grabbing all the chinchillas in MCR. and irrevocably revoke the license. PETA is ready to help remove every chinchilla from this factory and deliver it to the appropriate rescue facilities and loving homes for care. “

A covert PETA investigation revealed that around 1,000 indoor chinchillas were confined in small open wire cages. One chinchilla died due to being deprived of veterinary care due to a raw bloody wound, and another died after being attacked by a breeder’s dog and suffered overnight without care. Another had a large swelling under the chin. The owner of the factory admitted that he killed this chinchilla and others by breaking their necks, which did not lead to a painless or quick death.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way,” is opposed to arrogance, a worldview focused on human superiority. For more information please visit PETA.org or subscribe to the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram…

This is followed by a letter from Houston to Kevin Shea, Administrator of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the USDA.

    Dear Mr. Shi:

My PETA friends told me that they are worried about 1,000 animals at the Moulton Chinchilla Ranch (MCR) in Minnesota. I am writing to plead with the USDA to immediately confiscate all chinchillas in MCR and revoke the license permanently.

I understand that the USDA has cited MCR over 100 times since 2013 for failing to comply with FEPA standards, and that you also filed a complaint alleging that facility owner and operator Daniel J. Moulton deliberately violated federal law, but PETA’s recent investigation clearly shows that nothing has improved for these animals. Chinchillas were denied veterinary care due to a severed leg and exposed bones, an abscess of breast tissue and injured eyes. I was told that Moulton even confessed to breaking chinchillas’ necks – a brutal and inhuman method of killing that deprives animals of the painless way to get rid of suffering – and he mocked a USDA veterinarian just because he doubted it. How can this continue?

Please end this merciless suffering by arresting all chinchillas in MCR and revoking your license permanently. PETA is ready to help remove every chinchilla from this factory and deliver it to the appropriate rescue facilities and loving homes for care.

    Sincerely,

    Angelica Houston
