College Station, Texas –Texas A&M interim president John L. Junkins still has time to do the right thing by releasing dogs from the infamous canine muscular dystrophy (MD) laboratory, so PETA supporters will come to the university’s Board of Trustees meeting tomorrow to urge him to do just that before he will leave office on June 1st.

    When: Thursday, May 20, 13.00

Where: 177 Joe Routt Blvd., College Station, TX 77840 (Texas A&M Hotel & Convention Center, Century Ballroom)

“Time is ticking for President Junkins to take the shameful years of Texas A&M dog abuse in the history books,” said PETA Senior Vice President Katy Guillermo. “PETA encourages him to leave a legacy of kindness, end testing and allow dogs to be adopted in homes where they will finally be safe and loved.”

The footage, published by PETA, shows golden retrievers and other Texas A&M dogs that were deliberately bred to develop an ugly and painful form of canine MD struggling to walk, swallow, and even breathe. Thanks to the efforts of doctors, people with MD and PETA, the school has completed its dog breeding program. Many dogs were released for adoption, but 20 remain in sterile cages. Nearly 40 years of these experiments have not led to a cure or treatment to reverse the symptoms of BD in humans.

PETA, whose motto is in part that “animals are not ours to experiment on” – opposes arrogance, a worldview focused on human excellence.
