Government of New South Wales (NSW) recently made a resolution to Biodiversity Conservation Act it prohibits the breeding of dolphins and the entry of dolphins into the state.

World Animal Welfare released statement further clarifying that last August Ben Pearson, the organization’s campaign manager for Australia and New Zealand, appeared before a request from the upper house of New South Wales to enact an ordinance banning captive dolphin breeding in the state.

“This ruling frees future dolphins from the enclosed life at a time when the public acceptability of capturing dolphins for entertainment is declining,” Pearson said. “As the situation becomes unsuitable for the use of captive marine mammals for entertainment, the conversation about what will happen to the dolphins in Sea World should begin now. The first step is to ban further breeding. “

Sea World in Queensland (QLD) now the only dolphinarium in Australia that continues to breed dolphins in captivity. It must end!

According to Sea World QLD Petition This was created to be sent to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison: “Dolphins can travel 160 km a day on the ocean and dive to 45 m depth, which is impossible if they are in captivity. This unnatural, violent habitat is absolutely detrimental to the health and safety of dolphins. ” The petition also reiterates that dolphins “were not born to be taught to be entertained when they suffer in a tiny, highly unnatural environment.”

While much remains to be done to end the exploitation of captive animals, World Animal Welfare noted that Canada recently a ban was passed on captive dolphins, whales and porpoises for entertainment. One more step in the right direction after Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, India, Luxembourg, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
